Case Study 3 – Serene and Spacious

Brief
Our clients wanted to put in a new kitchen as their last one had dated with units that lacked function and freestanding appliances that spoiled the appearance of the relatively small space. Our brief was to keep to a traditional style of door to complement their beautiful Victorian house.

Design Solution
We used our bespoke range of doors and found one with a matching lambstongue beading detail to that of the original victorian panelled entrance doors. Our clients wanted to keep their existing dining table, so we chose matching beech worktop boards for the worksurface, which added warmth to the kitchen. We chose a green for the walls, which complements the red and orange hues of the worksurface and adds a sense of calm.

The design had to include lots of integrated appliances, which left not a great deal of storage in the base units, so to maximise the space, we installed a le-mans corner system and a pullout larder. We also constructed the wall units with extra depth internally. There is less need for fillers to be placed in a bespoke design, so you maximise the storage space right to the extremities of the walls. We chose traditional styling for the sink, a porcelain one, with the added advantage of being inset which takes up less base unit space than a Belfast sink. The taps were in a traditional bibcock style, with a cleverly constructed quarter turn function - nice and easy to turn on and off.

Finally, we revived the original timber floorboards by sanding, repairing and staining them and the kitchen was hand painted in a lovely chalky ivory.
