Case Study 2 – Traditional with a Classic Twist
Brief
Our clients, a couple living in St Andrews, had been living
with a tired kitchen for a number of years. The space was dark and cold
and crowded with awkward cupboards leading our client to keep everything
out on display. Worktop space was at a minimum and the colour scheme was
dated and tired. In fact our client rarely stayed in the space after cooking
as she found it so uncomfortable.
Our brief was to create a warm and light kitchen that would act as the social hub of the home, somewhere they would really want to spend time. A space that was classic nearing on traditional in feel and that played to the excellent proportions of the open plan room and the clients love of green.
Design Solution
Our designers worked to create a light and airy space installing a shaker
kitchen that was sprayed sage green to give a smooth finish and a granite
verde eucalyptus worksurface. The walls were lightened throughout and the
existing dresser was rebuilt to tie in with the overall design. Floors
were sanded, repaired and stained to match the oak used in the dresser
shelves. A Victorian radiator was selected to complement the period feel
and the boiler was hidden behind matching cabinets. The existing Smeg range
cooker was serviced and cleaned and housed within the chimneybreast and
bespoke curved units were designed to tie it in with the line of the kitchen
cabinets. The client was delighted with the result and invited us round
for drinks and nibbles to show off her finishing touches.
