Case Study 3 – Social and Functional

Brief
Our client wanted a classic kitchen that would be traditional enough that it would sit nicely in her period home, but timeless enough that it wouldn't date or clash with her adjoining modern extension

Design Solution
Our design incorporated a classic oak shaker door to give a warm timber finish and a lovely, rich green granite worksurface called Wild West. There were many storage requirements for this kitchen such as wine, vegetables, tupperware, utensils, tea towels, trays, recipe books and these were all given an appropriate home be it in a basket, rack, pullout wire unit or shelving area creating a truly functional space. We also installed an integrated microwave oven to ensure that we were left with the maximum worktop space for preparation.

As the kitchen was very large, we designed a peninsular with a seating area, which we finished with curved units at the end, so that there were no sharp corners to walk into. The back of the peninsular also had some of the oak shaker doors that were inlaid with marquetry to match the ones either side of the extractor fan to add interest and to break up the run of plain oak fascias. The seating area enabled our client to cook and chat to whoever was sitting at the breakfast bar.
