Pros and Cons of Glass Worktops
Glass is a sleek, sophisticated choice of material for your worktop or splash back. Glass adds a cool, contemporary appearance to your home and comes in an exciting range of colours, which lend themselves beautifully to stunning lighting effects.
Glass splash backs and worktops:
- Can be incorporated with lighting and other effects to create something really special.
- Are very easy to clean and have a smooth, grout free surface so do not collect dirt.
- Are low maintenance and, being non-porous, are very hygienic.
They can be expensive and are not completely scratch proof or heat proof, so care needs to be taken when cutting and a trivet or heatproof mat should always be used for hot pans etc.
Care and Maintenance of Glass
Glass is low maintenance and easy to clean. The non-porous surface is hygienic and long-lasting if treated properly. The use of a specialist glass cleaner is recommended.
As glass is not heat proof, pans and other hot item should never be placed directly onto the surface. The worktops can be scratched and so a chopping board should be used for cutting vegetables. Never drag a heavy or abrasive object over the surface.
With adequate care, your glass worktop should be a stylish feature for many years.
